Last week I almost got scammed and I still feel a little dumb about it. I was trying to sell an old camera on Facebook Marketplace. Someone messaged me right away and said they really needed it that day. They even offered to pay a little extra, which made me feel like I got lucky.

They said they would pay through Zelle. A few minutes later I got an email that looked official, saying the payment was on hold because my account needed an upgrade. It told me I had to send the buyer three hundred dollars first so the money could be released. The buyer kept telling me this was normal and to hurry up so they could pick up the camera.

Something finally felt off, so I checked the email again. The sender address was weird and not from Zelle at all. I looked it up and saw it was a common scam. When I told the buyer I only wanted cash, they immediately got rude, which pretty much confirmed it.

I didn’t lose any money, but I was surprisingly close. Now I’m way more careful with emails and payment stuff.
